From Pi Day to St. Patrick’s Day and the first day of spring, there are plenty of reasons to celebrate March with a cup of coffee in hand. So, let’s dive into each of these coffee holidays and learn how to make the perfect cup for each occasion. This month, we’d like to introduce you to Boyd’s Good Morning. The toasted almond aroma of this medium roast coffee complements rather than dominates however you embrace your coffee madness.
Pi Day (March 14th)
Pi Day is celebrated on March 14th (3.14 😉) in honor of the mathematical constant pi (π). But, what does pi have to do with coffee? Well, nothing really – unless you’re trying to calculate the area of the circular bottom of your coffee pot. (You’re not doing that, are you?) But, it does give us an excuse to indulge in some delicious pie and coffee!
We always celebrate Pi Day with a slice of our favorite pie and nice hot cup of coffee. Really, is there a combo much better than that? Maybe you’re like Special Agent Dale Cooper (since we also hail from the Great Pacific Northwest) and it’s cherry pie and a damn fine cup of coffee. Maybe you prefer a nice slice of fresh apple pie. You know what goes great with apple pie? A latte with some cinnamon and nutmeg. Or just some black coffee. It’s a match made in heaven.
St. Patrick’s Day (March 17th)
On the day we celebrate Irish culture, some of you may be thinking about green beer. For us, the drink of choice is a classic Irish coffee. To make the perfect Irish coffee, you’ll need:
• 1 cup of freshly brewed coffee
• 1 tablespoon of brown sugar
• 1 1/2 ounces of Irish whiskey
• Whipped cream
Mix the brown sugar and whiskey in a glass until the sugar dissolves. Add the freshly brewed coffee and stir. Top with a dollop of whipped cream and enjoy! Sláinte!
First Day of Spring (March 20th)
The first day of spring marks the beginning of a new season, the sun is hanging around for a little longer every day, the days are getting warmer and we can even see summer off in the not-too-distant-future. And what better way to welcome spring and all its glories than with a refreshing iced coffee? Try this Honey Iced Coffee for slightly sweet salute to spring.
• 1 cup of strong coffee
• 1 teaspoon of honey
• Milk or cream (optional)
• Ice cubes
Mix the coffee and honey in a mug until the honey dissolve. Add milk or cream, if desired. Pour into a tall glass filled with ice and stir. Sip and enjoy the refreshing taste of spring!
